Creating, expanding, riding, a vast and ever changing horizon.
Making and enjoying art, as an infinite shared life language that maps a timeline of existence.
:::LANGUAGE OF SKIN:::
Discovering the timeless language of skin, in ink stories created by hand, with awareness, intention and ceremony. Creating color infusions and beauty in every single marking.
Hand tattooing is an ancient primitive art form that differs immensely from machine tattooing, and potentially initiates a journey that transcends the physicality of the image in the skin. The simplicity of the hand made instruments that I use, create unique vital experiences.
Since 2012, I work primarily from home in an indoor Tattoo Garden Room, immersed in nature and art where the ambiance has a powerful influence and impact in the tattoo session. Because hand tattooing does not require electricity, I worked almost exclusively outdoors for seven of the earlier years with this practice, discovering exotic wild locations to hold tattoo rituals while traveling, such as up in trees, in caves, on mountain peaks, volcanoes, beaches, beside waterfalls, in deserts, rooftops, gardens, temples and so on. For seven winter seasons, living in Goa, India, I created several different Tattoogardens : in a courtyard, on rooftops, and beside a river. With two fellow hand tattooers, we held full moon tattoo sessions in the jungle and in the palm forests, where cicadas and frogs, crickets and night birds serenaded the ink dances. Traveling people are experiencing so many epic moments that they wish to mark in their skin, taking bold and brave steps out of the ordinary, and marking the ways for, and into, the wild.
Language of skin specializes in color, botanicals, partial / no outlines and transformation of previous tattoos and scars (physical and emotional). I create one off custom pieces and enjoy a client participatory creative experience as much as possible. I have even been asked to make invisible tattoos with sacred water and prayer, infusing intention into the skin with no need to create a visual that lasts beyond the healing time.
:::PAINTING:::
Growing up in an English country garden, surrounded by plants, conservatories of flowers, birds and animals, and traveling worldwide to visit botanical gardens, cemeteries and rich natural habitats that are filled with memorials to life and death, has influenced all of my art works.
Being born to parents who lived many years traveling on the seas, inspired the knowledge of nomadic ways to adventure the world. Aged 7, a life long passion of visiting distant tropical lands to be immersed in all of their treasures, began.
After experimenting in mixed media arts for many years, I began painting ornate botanical murals in conservatories and homes, and discovered how to shape environments with artwork that is not material like a sculpture or a painting that can be moved or held.
Upon moving to California and creating a long term home, I acknowledge how essential the healthy living environment that we inhabit is, and, how being surrounded by plants and beauty deeply energizes our daily life. The space that I reside in honors a lifelong collection of worldly artifacts and stands as an altar that profoundly influences my creations and daily gratitude for life.
This collection of paintings explores opulent, refined temples and lush, wild gardens; themes that consistently emerge. The temple is a place for prayer, a place to gather insight, awareness, wisdom, peace, love, faith, fragrance, intention, care, and to remember the source of life in the Beauty Way. Exploring balance in the symmetry of geometric structures and the infinite forms and vibrant colors of the natural world.
Essentially a botanical garden is a temple, a place to seed prayers.
:::PHOTOGRAPHY:::
Capturing a moment that does not exist in any other moment. A moment that is completely unique, ephemeral and Only.
Using color and filters to alter the essence of the photographed experience, giving a flavor to an image, a sense of something magickal and elusive otherwise.
In awe of the ways that photographs are timeless translations of something that is constantly changing, and that in any single other second, the same thing would appear differently in the next image. I like rich, saturated, bleeding imagery, opulent and heavy with color contrasts that invoke fragrance even. The way that these photographs can invoke a sense of monsoon, or dawn, or thick tropical air, or radiant light that dances for a second on our eyelashes.
Appreciation for the technology that allows us to capture images with our own flavors at any time and play with them with the joy of a child : god. For the love of color vibration and therapy for the spirit ride, I offer these artworks.
